Overview
Milano Unica, a textile trade show in Milan, showcased the latest seasonal designs fresh from major print studios. The event's large scale meant buyers had more time to visit individual studios and select innovative printed fabrics and jacquards for Fall/Winter 2019/20. Buyers sought novelty based on recent runway trends.
Dense Florals
Building on the success of cotton prints, prints are becoming increasingly dense, closely associated with vintage design and employing a rich palette of colors to meet the demand for maximalist styling. Small prints are kept close together, revealing little or no underlying color. Delicate pastels and pale bases create an elegant and dreamy tone. Floral patterns such as meadow and spring buds are popular, suitable for tulle, satin, and chiffon pleated dresses, coats, and quilted jackets.
Mini Patterns
Mini patterns have long been neglected. Small geometric shapes and soft, chiffon prints are poised for a comeback, enhancing their retro feel and offering a more wearable alternative to more maximalist prints. Mini patterns are sure to be a hit. For sophisticated tailoring, gray tones can be used, while playful and whimsical colorways are suitable for younger consumers. Reducing the size of logos and lettering is an update on the current trend for brand name prints.
Neon Floral Patterns
A unique combination of floral, botanical, and classical motifs imbues luxurious silk with a vintage charm, emphasizing depth and three-dimensionality. Fluorescent colors are blended with matte seams and delicate patterns, highlighting a traditional, luxurious, and captivating allure.
Safari
Leopard print is this season's animal print. Its unexpected color palette and oversized size give it a fresh look. Combined with stripes or mesh, the print creates a unique layered effect. The pattern, combined with different bases, creates a cool, comfortable yet feminine and sexy look.
